Police have arrested a 35-year-old man who is currently in custody following violent clashes that broke out on Saturday afternoon in the Oroklini area.
A 27-year-old man sustained serious injuries during the incident and is in critical condition at Nicosia General Hospital. An infant who was also injured in the unrest is receiving treatment at Makarios Hospital. Authorities have reported that the infant’s condition is stable and not life-threatening.
The altercation took place at an apartment complex where migrant residents reside. According to police reports, tensions arose when the property owner and staff arrived at approximately 10:30 a.m. to secure several apartments that were allegedly being occupied illegally by foreign nationals.
By midday, the situation intensified, leading to physical confrontations between the property owner’s group and the residents of the apartment complex.
